Youth Ministry 411

Sound of Joyful Ringers

The Psalms often speak of “making a joyful sound” in order to praise our God. This is where the name of our hand bell choir for youth in grades 5-8 comes from. Participants who enjoy, but who don’t read music are welcome. The hand bell choir practices throughout the semester and then offers its gift of music in worship at the end of each semester. Practices are held on specific Sundays for one hour. Download the youth calendar for specific dates and times.

Agape Meal

Agape is a Greek word which means “love”. These meals derive from the common early Christian practice of table sharing. It is a chance for our high school youth to share a meal together in a relaxed atmosphere. We break bread together and share stories from the past week with one another in an open and honest dialogue with one another. Parents and other church members sign up to provide and serve the meals. High School Fellowship

We welcome all youth grades 9-12 to come and build community with one another. We engage in discussions concerning what is on the minds of our young people, holding up our daily lives to the good news of the gospel. We learn and practice ancient spiritual disciplines of prayer and develop deep friendships with one another as we learn to be spiritual partners in the high school journey. We also go on mission trips, youth conferences and retreats, take in movies, play miniature golf, bowling, etc. Download the youth calendar for specific dates and times.

Middle School Fellowship

We welcome all youth in grades 6-8. We gather to talk about what it means to be a child of God. We talk about learning to claim that identity as we struggle with all the identity issues that the middle school years bring. We also let loose through games, ice skating, bowling, retreats, etc. Download the youth calendar for specific dates and times.

Frozen Chosen Café

A time for middle and high school youth to gather on Sunday nights during the summer months. We play, laugh and take it easy on the hot summer nights while we enjoy the featured frozen dessert of the night like chocolate milkshakes or orange smoothies. Download the youth calendar for specific dates and times.

Christian Education

Sunday school is in session from September through May. Middle and High youth have separate classes which meet weekly to learn about a wide variety of topics. We seek to teach young people about the Bible and our faith tradition. We teach from a Reformed theological perspective so that young people can explore their beliefs and come to articulate their faith. Confirmation Class -- an opportunity for youth to explore their faith and consider the meaning of membership in the Presbyterian Church -- is generally offered during the middle school years (either during Sunday morning or as an additional opportunity depending on numbers of youth interested.)
